Dressage Training – Using German Training Methods

by Gerda on Jul.28, 2010, under Dressage Training Day, News, Training

Water Farm Dressage Centre would like to invite you to their Dressage Training Clinics.

Having trained with Olympic medalists and all time greats such as the German dressage rider Josef Neckermann and having competed in Germany for a number of years, Gerda Warner now offers her expertise in training and coaching riders of all experience levels.

The dates for clinics are as follows:

18th September 2010

9th October 2010

13th November 2010

Other days can also be booked if, for example, you are a group of riders.  In this case please contact Gerda directly.

The Clinics will be held either in the outdoor menage or in the indoor school depending on the weather and preference of the rider.  There will be no more than 6 riders per clinic, so you are assured individual attention.

The aims of the clinic

German training terms:

  • Losgelassenheit  (looseness)
  • Durchlässigkeit  (submission)
  • Schwung (swing)

Those words are often used, frequently not really understood and not easily achieved.

This clinic will teach you to properly understand:

  • What the terms mean?
  • How they work?
  • Why they are important?
  • What does and does not happen in their absence?
  • How to get closer to those aims?

Schedule for the day

Sessions are structured as follows:

9:30 Paired Training Sessions

The First Session will start at 9.30 and run until 12:30. Riders are trained in pairs in 45min slots.

Riders when not riding are invited to watch the sessions; this can be invaluable as seeing what others are doing during instruction can be enlightening.

12.45 Working Lunch

During this theoretical part of the clinic we will discuss the film footage taken during the first training session.  Sandwiches, salads and drinks (tea, coffee and soft drinks) are provided.

14.00 Back on horses

After 15 min warm up we will have a further intense 60 min session as a group making use of the newly acquired knowledge.

15.30 Ride Test

An appropriate test (CRC or BD) will be judged at the end of the session. Test-sheets given for your future reference.

For more details please contact Gerda.

Price:  £ 60 per person
